dog allergy to fleas review

Product Description

Biting fleas are more than just a nuisance for your dog. Left unchecked, they can cause serious disorders such as flea allergy dermatitis, secondary skin infections, tapeworms, and even anemia. This topical flea treatment lets you stop fleas before they become a problem. Used just once a month, it begins working in minutes, killing 98 to 100 percent of the fleas on dogs within 12 hours and 99 percent of flea larvae and eggs within 20 minutes. The dead fleas can't lay eggs, and the dead larvae and eggs can't hatch, breaking the flea's life cycle and halting the infestation in its tracks. Any new fleas your dog then encounters are killed within two hours, preventing re-infestation for as long as four weeks. In fact, Advantage II is so effective at breaking the flea's life cycle there's no need to treat your dog's environment. Applied before the start of flea season, it helps keep your dog from becoming infested in the first place. Used year-round, it prevents fleas from over-wintering in your home to feast on your dog next season. Gentle enough for puppies as young as seven weeks, Advantage II is water-resistant and continues to work while your dog swims or is bathed. The package includes six pre-measured doses for dogs 21-55 pounds in easy-to-use applicator tubes. For safety, keep out of the reach of children, and read all warnings and instructions carefully.

  • Kills adult fleas, eggs and larvae
  • Remains effective even after swimming or shampooing
  • One treatment prevents further flea infestation for at least four weeks

I've been happily using these types of flea medications for 10 years. BUT, I'd given up over the last two years on Advantage and Frontline. They both seemed to have NO EFFECT. Maybe the fleas in my area had become immune? I tried the others from the local big box store, they didn't work either.

I thought I'd try this "advantage II", maybe Bayer had changed the forumulation?

To my surprise - it worked great! I have two 60 lb dogs (shepherd and golden retriever) who were miserable this summer, as was I, because neither my Shepherd nor I enjoyed weekly baths to try to control the fleas.

This stuff is magic.

No more fleas on my pets or in my carpets.

We have over 10 cats at any time and this is a godsend. We treat the animals by weight(you can find this info on-line) using the large dog size. It is exactly the same ingredients as the cat one just different dosage. Advantage II is even better! It kills fleas quicker and kills the eggs too. We used to use Frontline Plus but was seeing adult fleas in 1-2 weeks. I am glad we changed to this product. Price is great too.

1.0 out of 5 stars NO GOOD ANYMORE, March 15, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've bought advantage ever since it came out. I have two boxers and when one dies I replace it. My last male lived 15 years. This stuff use to work great.
The last batch I bought I sent back because it didn't work and I called Bayer and asked where to buy it and bought the next box from their recommended supplier just to make sure I was getting the real thing, although I don't know if they are making fakes of this or not. Bayer assured me that it did NOT expire and old boxes were just as good as the current boxes.

This stuff use to kill fleas on my dogs for up to three months. Now it doesn't kill fleas for even a week. It kills some but not all.

I don't care what they say. They've changed it and it's not any good anymore.

I'm going to try Capstar generic next. I live in Texas where the fleas never die outside.

5.0 out of 5 stars 14 years and still happy..., September 3, 2011

I have been using Advantix for 14 years now and have found nothing better. Have compared it to cheaper store brands and to Frontline, but the Advantix works best. My outside dogs are not bothered by fleas, ticks or even flies. I have read some poor reviews on this product, but neither of my dogs have ever experienced any side effects to Advantix, even when they were young. It seems that when I used Frontline in the past, the directions said to put the entire contents of the tube in one spot between the shoulder blades, whereas Advantix specifically states to disperse in four areas from the shoulders to the base of the tail. I wonder if some people are putting all of it in one spot and that is causing irritation?

5.0 out of 5 stars More effective and faster than Frontline, August 10, 2011
Karen Frances - See all my reviews
I had a flea infestation in my house and on my dog. I used Frontline, bombed the house, and have been vacuuming daily. I could see a few dead fleas that fell off my dog after the first 24 hours of Frontline and was waiting for more to die off but that wasn't the case. I followed the instructions exactly, but after the first 3.5 weeks the problem seemed to get worse. I was using Capstar in addition to kill off the adults, but it seemed they kept appearing! I read that Frontline has become less effective in the past few years and that seems to be true. I read some reviews on Advantix II and decided to try that for the second month. I know it takes three months to break a flea cycle but this seems to have worked after the first week! I gave him Advantix II and a Capstar the first day and I haven't seen a flea since. This stuff is AMAZING and my frustrating is slowly dwindling away. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON FRONTLINE!!

3.0 out of 5 stars works just fine., July 28, 2012
This review is from: PETARMOR Topical Flea & Tick Treatment for Dogs & Puppies, For Dogs 23-44 lbs. (Misc.)
I recently moved into a wooded neighborhood with lots of tics so I bought this for both of my dogs. One is long haired and the other is short haired. The product seems to be working, my only complaint is the day after application both dogs had spiked up hair with white powedery clumps at the tips... perhaps from them shaking? Regardless I wonder how much of the drug I had to clean off with a wet paper towel.
