This review is from: NaturVet Herbal Flea Pet Powder, 4 Ounce (Misc.) We use this as part of a preventative plan. We have 3 dogs and one cat that are all indoor/outdoor. We started using this product back in April 2011 as part of a flea prevention plan. Because 2 of our dogs are Pomeranian's and our cat is long haired sometimes I think some of the monthly treatment gets lost in their fur and they don't get the full treatment no matter how hard we try. This powder is fine enough that we can take the dogs to the porch and sprinkle some on their backs and work it into their fur using our fingers. Our dogs actually love it! They think their getting a massage and it keeps the fleas away. Win, Win!! There are no harmful chemicals so the dogs skin does not get irritated and we don't have to wear gloves making it easier to apply. Frontline and other remedies were not working (although they always seem to work for me). We tried this stuff, and the fleas beat it right away. Plus, nothing harmful in it. Very satisfied at her house. Now I'm buying some, because hey - never enough safe protection against nasty fleas, and UGH!! tapeworms!!. This is basically a generic version of Capstar. Not only is it cheaper, you get more pills per container. We have had the worst flea season ever and spraying alone didn't seem to make a dent since our pets spend a lot of time outside and the yard is too big to completely cover with insecticide. After we tried the capsules on our pets the adult fleas started dying within 30 minutes. As suggested we sprayed the house and outside area with a home insecticide to kill eggs and larvae that are not affected by these pills. They work by poisoning the adult flea when it bites the dog, so therefore the more eggs you kill beforehand will help reduce the number of capsules you have to give your dog. Also works on our indoor cat as well and they are MUCH happier after just one week. They suggested giving a dose daily for heavily infested dogs (esp. if they are kept outdoors)until you notice a great improvement. We gave one tablet each day for two days, then skipped a day, then skipped 2 days... I am so grateful to have found this product from Little City Dogs! It's wonderful to be able to buy the exact same medication as in the "name brand" at such an affordable price. In fact, I noticed results even faster than the "name brand" product (perhaps because the capsules allow the medication to get into the animals' system faster?). At first I thought the capsules would be awkward (I've only ever used tablets) but I had no trouble at all giving them to my three dogs and three cats. I have one cat who has always balked at taking medication, but my trick is to dissolve the medication into a spoonful of grape jelly and then smear the jelly onto her paws, then she proceeds to lick off the jelly (and medication) and she's none-the-wiser lol! Thank you, Little City Dogs, for offering a high-quality product at a great price (something that is so important to those of us with multiple pets, especially when we're faced with an unexpectedly difficult flea season). The capsules arrived quickly and I was particularly happy that I had the option of opening the capsules and sprinkling the nitenpyram on our cat's (wet) food. Within 24 hours, he was a a very happy camper. I gave him one each day for three days and sprayed/washed his bed, etc. I bought extra to have on hand. Amazing. No fleas on the cat. I never had a complaint until the company began using excess "conditioner", but I continued to buy it. The newest product with the applicator is more than useless. In using it I got the liquid on my pants, and the rest of the excessive liquid went directly onto my dog's hair, not onto her skin. I'll never buy this again. I'm glad I got only a 3 month supply. Very bad design!
